The need for more flexible operation of gas-fired power plants has led manufacturers to exploit possibilities retrofit existing systems and increase turndown capabilities, lowering the minimum environmental load (MEL) - lowest output at which unit can operate still meet emissions limits. A possible measure compressor enable a reduced MEL is extract significant mass flow rates through bleed ports in with closed IGV lower entering combustor, enabling further reduction while maintaining emissions.
